Things to Do in Winter

Wintertime in Swan Valley is full of activities for the whole family. Hansen Guest Ranch sits in the heart of the valley close to snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and skiing. The ranch also hosts sleigh rides from a local outfitter complete with refreshments and cozy blankets. After a fun-filled day frolicking in the snow, warm up next to a cozy campfire with some marshmallows or take a dip in the local hot springs.

Snowshoeing

Enjoy the solitude and sightseeing as you snowshoe around the property with beautiful panoramic views. The trail is about 1.5 to 2 miles but is entirely optional. Start your day with visits from bald eagles, moose, whitetail deer, and owls. Then visit the shaman blessed Rock Altar next to Rainey Creek.

Snowmobiling

If you are looking for a snowy adventure to rev up your day, there are many local snowmobile trail systems nearby. Here in Bonneville County, the parks and recreation department maintains over 400 miles of groomed trails. The Snake River Range is also an option in the area.

Nordic and Alpine Skiing

Take advantage of some fresh powder by skiing in the valley and nearby mountains. With options for both Nordic and Alpine skiing, there is a bit of something for everyone. Kelly Canyon Ski Resort is just 30 minutes up US-26 W, while Grand Targhee is about an hour’s drive away to the north in Wyoming.

Nothing says wintertime like a sleigh ride through the snow. Cozy up with family and friends under some blankets with warm refreshments as you dash through the valley on a horse-drawn sleigh. A local outfitter will pick you up at the ranch and glide you across the snow for 45 minutes to an hour.
